Why Soft Surfaces Make Red Light Therapy Devices Unstable

Yoga mats and carpets compress under weight. If the feet of a panel stand sink by different amounts, the device no longer rests on a level plane. Its center of gravity can shift toward an edge, making it more likely to tip when the panel is raised, tilted, or touched.
The problem is more noticeable with tall panels because much of the unit’s weight sits above a relatively small base. A minor movement at floor level can produce a much larger swing near the top.
Soft surfaces also create uneven friction. A rubber yoga mat may grip one foot while folding or stretching beneath another. Plush carpet can allow narrow wheels or feet to sink into the pile, while thick carpet padding adds another compressible layer.

The platform should support every wheel, foot, or support arm without placing any part near an edge. Leave at least 2–3 inches of clearance around the stand’s entire footprint. If the base measures 20 by 24 inches, for example, a platform measuring approximately 24 by 30 inches provides a safer margin.
Rigidity matters more than thickness. A thin board that flexes noticeably under the panel can create the same instability as the soft floor. A single platform is generally safer than separate blocks beneath individual feet. Independent blocks can shift, rotate, or settle at different depths in the carpet.

Use a Simple Stability Test
Perform the stability test with the device switched off and unplugged. Set the panel to its intended height and angle, lock the wheels, and confirm that every foot is fully supported.
Apply light pressure near the middle of the frame from the front, back, and both sides. Do not use enough force to challenge the stand. Check for rocking, sliding, delayed movement in the carpet, or a wheel lifting from the platform.
Release the frame and observe whether it returns to a neutral position. If it continues to sway, shifts across the base, or causes one side of the platform to lift, the setup is not ready for use.

When Wall Mounting Is the Better Choice

The tradeoffs include reduced portability, installation work, and the need for adequate wall support. Fasteners must be suitable for both the panel’s weight and the wall material. Drywall anchors alone may not support a large or heavy device unless the mounting system is specifically rated for that application.
Follow the mounting instructions supplied with the panel and bracket. If you cannot confidently locate wall framing or verify the mounting capacity, hire a qualified installer. Avoid generic hooks, adhesive strips, and improvised brackets.
Wall mounting is particularly useful when the panel has a narrow rolling base, must remain extended during each session, or shares a room with children or pets.
Should You Add Counterweights?
Use counterweights only when they are supplied or expressly approved for the device. A random weight placed on the rear of a stand may appear to improve balance while overloading the frame, wheel mounts, or adjustment hardware.

Instead of placing its casters directly on the carpet pile, position the stand on a rigid, finished board measuring 28 by 32 inches.
